Our Story
In 2018, after having spent our careers in Washington DC, we decided to quit the rat race and move to Sweden, where Monika grew up.
Once here we discovered that the market for bag-in-box wine was huge, due to convenience of the packaging and the ability to get quality wine in a box. Affordable wine on tap at home was great, but we were frustrated by a universal design flaw in the Bag-in-box.
Hunter has a medical condition called essential tremor, and every time he used the bag-in-box he spilled the wine. After some testing he made the first prototype WineBoxAid in our backyard, using an old, beat-up cutting board. Our family and friends liked the invention and we decided to make it available to more people.
The WineBoxAid as a business was born!
After creating an effective design, we then started learning more about plastic.
We’re passionate about sustainable development and pristine oceans. Every day all sorts of plastic, like bags, straws, and fishing nets wind up amassed in our oceans, causing long-term damage to ocean life.
Thus, we decided that WineBoxAid had to be made from Ocean Plastic, which is plastic waste that has been retrieved from the oceans and recycled. It is a bit more expensive than regular plastic but critical to cleaning our oceans and helping sea life survive.
It is green because it is mostly made from recycled fishing nets.
We then searched for someone that could produce the WineBoxAid and were delighted to find GH-Plast, based in Grisslehamn. It is a beautiful small town in the archipelago, where people have lived close to nature and the sea for centuries.
